Calum Frame is a singer songwriter from Strathaven, just outside Glasgow, who has been on the music scene for 9 years. He’s supported Newton Faulkner on his Highlands tour in 2018, shared the stage with Gerry Cinnamon at T in the Park, played alongside Lewis Capaldi and recently sold out his own headline show at King Tut’s earlier this year. His latest single is something a little different from his previous works – but still very true to his Calum traditions.
As soon as I heard the first chord being picked on the guitar I was automatically drawn in for the emotional journey. His voice enters on its own, quite powerful but intricately, setting the tone for the song. With lyrics portraying the image of painting and portraying a love story, which he does rather cleverly.
The chorus plays its obvious hooks and is the catchphrase of the single, which is complimented beautifully with the violin entering and delicately mimicking the melody of the chorus, before having it’s own time to shine. Followed by the second verse which is met with the entrance of the cello bringing out the bass tones in Calum’s voice. Harmonies floating in throughout alight your emotions and bring the whole piece together, having being built up by its own orchestra.
Lyrically throughout the portrayal of a masterpiece is coming together, with the introduction of instruments throughout reflecting this work of art developing metaphorically.
Altogether this is something totally different from Calum, but nothing less was expected with his knowledge on how to capture the imagination of the listener, showcasing his voice on a new venture. I personally found the song to be super emotional, mainly with the lyrics being descriptive, personal and touching on something he commonly mentions in a more mature manner.
‘Violin’ will be released on 30th August 2019 and can be found on his page on Spotify via the link below. It’s something you won’t want to miss if you like being in touch with your more sensitive side – but the music video is not for the faint hearted- you’ve been warned!
