Scottish Album of the Year Awards Line-Up Announced!

It’s that time of year again, the Scottish Album of the Year awards are here and they have just announced their 2019 event line-up!


The SAY awards was established by the Scottish Music Industry Association (SMIA) and is considered to be one the most sought after and ambitious art prizes in the country. The first prize of £20,000 goes to the winning album and all the runners-up will also receive a cash prize of £1,000, thanks to Creative Scotland. The hope of that comes with this worthwhile ceremony is to encourage and all budding musicians to make music and to showcase the diversity and strength of the music that comes out of Scotland.


This year, we have Lylo, Heir of the Cursed, Man of Moon and Cucina Povera will perform at the invite only event on Friday 6th September.


Lylo, who have been playing since 2013, have been described of having a jazz-infused sounds and inventive songwriting.


Heir of the Cursed who are known for their absolutely stunning vocals and hymnal yet honest lyrics, showing a different side to what Scotland has to bring to the music industry.


Next, we will hear from Man of the Moon, Edinburgh locals, the duo have been described as having a “droney kraut-psych to happily head banging effect and a touch of mystic folk” sound.


Finally we have Cucina Povera with her sweet and melancholic style and is also considered to be conceptual and pragmatic.


On the night itself, the winner will be decided by a panel of expert judges who are all key influencers and practised tastemakers within the arts industry. The bands that have been shortlisted are a perfect example of the thriving music scene that Scotland has to offer and the final ten have exceptional albums which show the wide range of genres and styles that each act offers.
