Ahead of Green Velvet’s upcoming Scottish double-whammy of gigs on Saturday the 7th of September, we take a moment to reminisce on our top 5 sets from the Chicago legend.

Expect to hear nothing less than pounding techno beats and soulful samples from Green Velvet when he plays Leith Theatre in Edinburgh before shooting off to drop another set in Perth’s Ice Factory.

Brought to you by the Nightvision team, this is not a party you want to miss.

Groove Cruise | Mexico | 2017

Stopping off in Mexico as part of the Groove Cruise weekend, Green Velvet treated us to this naughty little set. Showing off his versatility in genres by executing this tech-house wonder with some funkier, bordering disco, tracks and samples. Not the heavier techno and house we are used to from Green Velvet but he absolutely nails it.

Green Velvet B2B Doc Martin | 2017

Keeping with the Groove Cruise theme we find ourselves intoxicated by the combined sounds of Green Velvet and Doc Martin, this time in LA. Green Velvet teasing deeper techno with this one bringing in house vocal samples that fluctuate between old school warehouse influences. These guys provide a belter of a set, check it out.

Tomorrowland Festival | 2015

Amidst all of the crazy visual production the green-haired mix master certainly maintain centre stage with this set. Upbeat and energetic tech-house keep all of the festival-goers on their toes. Even whilst sampling some more melodic tracks he never loses the fast paced tempo with the back beat. All these festival vibes is only getting us more excited for Green Velvet himself to come to Scotland.

Innercity | 2000

Taking it all the way back to the turn of the millennium with this one, here we have Green Velvet’s Innercity set. This is a full-blown techno set if you ever did hear one. He brings in subtle hints of trance with the euphoric synthetic samples which are completely outshadowed by the harsh, maybe even a killer, pure techno beats. This is a fine example of old school; you can only imagine the rave that was going on to this set.

Boiler Room x Ballatine’s Stay True Scotland | 2015

Out of our top 5, for me personally, this set best sums up Green Velvet’s style. Whilst he dabbles between genres, his iconic detroit influence and unique vision as a selector, make is style instantly recognisable. Not only does the music make this set, but the clips of the buzzing audience - I mean it’s no secret that the Scots do it best!

So there we have it, our top 5 Green Velvet sets. If this doesn’t get you excited for what’s to come when he takes over Leith Theatre (Edinburgh) and The Ice Factory (Perth) on September 7th, well I’m not sure what will.

Tickets are still available in the links above - go on treat yourself!
