Before their headline show at the Liquid rooms in Edinburgh, Hollie and I managed to catch the band backstage for a chat before they took to the stage and play an unbelievable set.
So tonight, big night , how many tickets have you sold for tonight?
About 700 - we would have sold more but health and safety intervene. And you don’t want a stampede at the bar, eh!
Are you nervous?
Awww naw just excited! It’s our biggest ain so far...overwhelmed to be honest I think! We played Sneaky Pete's round the corner last year and we sold that out, it was an 80 capacity. 80 people! A year later we are playing to ten times more. It’s great progress! It’s good support bands as well. And we’re all very...just absolutely buzzing for it!
How do you decide on support then?
We kinda talked about it together, generated a few ideas to see what bands we would like and which ones would suit the night. We had a it of input online as well people getting in touch with us telling us what they think. Even if it’s not their own band they’ll put them forward cause they want them on the bill. We’ve been that band that have always been given the opportunity to go and play a stage that you couldn’t get to play every week. So we were trying to pick a band who would really appreciate the opportunity. It’s great for exposure as well if you try and play with bands you haven’t played with before. You get to mingle with folk that you don’t meet all the time as well and that’s what we want! The band supporting us the night The Lutras we saw them pop up on social media loads and we thought that they must be doing pretty well. And the Pleasure Heads they are from Falkirk, quite local to us and they’re doing really well!
Where are yous from?
Alloa!!
2018 highlights? We saw you at Electric Fields, what else stood out for you?
Isle of Wight headline, Why Not headline, the Kendall Calling slot was amazing! Absolutely soaking though. I think the highlights would just be the experience that we have had. We’ve put a lot of ground work in and done a lot of miles and played in a lot of cities. The festival period was brilliant. The gigs themselves were great though, we did a lot of smaller venues to try and get people to travel to other cities for gigs. Today being an example, we’ve got people travelling from down south which is brilliant.
Do you think there is a difference between English crowds and Scottish crowds?
Scotlands more rowdy, although it depends where you are. We played in London and it was absolutely mental. The contrast in crowds is fine for us as you can get crowds that will just stand there and enjoy the music or you will get crowds that are right up for it. A Scottish crowd is also different as we usually have friends and family at they gigs.
What festivals are you doing this festival season?
We’ve had a couple come back to us. Neighbourhood Weekender which we are close to getting that one confirmed. In previous years we’ve had festivals come back to us late on.
Do we expect any new music from yourselves?
We are definitely working on new music. We are trying to get an album together which is in the pipeline. Its just trying to get us in the studio. Tonight we are playing all the songs people know but there becomes a time where you need to start introducing new music. As a band we have grew and our song writing is getting better.
Whats the process for song writing?
Usually it just starts of as an idea that starts off on the acoustic guitar and then we just build around it really. When somebody plays the tune for the first time we can tell if its going to be a good song or not.
Who are you guys listening to just now?
Rascalton, Shamboics, The Snuts, Pleasure Heads, Baby Strange .The Scottish scene is great just now. If your good enough and you work hard enough there’s nothing to stop you. We are in the position just now we have just sold out the Liquid Rooms, 700 people and we didn’t expect that at all. Hopefully it keeps carrying on. You have to be confident in your ability in what your doing.
If you could cover one song, what would it be?
Stuck In The Middle With You
Massive Attack - Teardrop
Do You Think I’m Sexy? - Rod Stewart
