The Sherlocks have been a pretty dominant force across UK indie since bursting onto the scene a few years ago. Their debut record charted at number six when released in 2017 and they have kept growing since.
The Sheffield four-piece are set to release their sophomore album 'Under the Sky' on the 4th October 2019. Before then, I caught up with Kiaran over the phone and chatted all things camp Sherlocks.
"It's an 11 track banger! Each song is a banger, but in it's own mind. It is a collection of different types of songs, a similar vibe to that first album. We don't want all the tracks to sound the same, they have to be different. We have 11 very good songs, and when put into the context of a record it really is just a good album, haha!"
In terms of lyrical content, Kiaran is inspired by a whole mean of things. Latest track "NYC (Sing It Louder)" is an example of how he can take a simple idea and turn it into a song made for being screamed live.
"NYC was wrote about touring America for the first time and our minds just being blown man. If you took someone from where we live [a small village near Sheffield] and put them in New York or whatever they would be blown away."
"Touring over there really opens your eyes to what it is like over there and makes you imagine living and experiencing that everyday, it really opened our eyes."
Towards the end of the year, The Sherlocks will take to the road to show off the new songs from 'Under The Sky' to their passionate fans. One of the dates on that tour is Glasgows world-renowned Barrowlands Ballroom. Kiaran explained how that venue has been a dream for quite a while now and how big a role the city has played in shaping the group over the years.
"Barrowlands is a venue we have had our eyes set on for a while now, its been a target for us. I think that's the thing as well, we haven't been on tour for a while so we are eager to get on out again. I think that's where we shine as a band. It's what we enjoy most, it never ever gets old!"
"Glasgow has played such a big part in helping us progress as a band and we absolutely love it. There's that venue called Stereo? It feels like we have payed that a good number of times. We know for a fact when we go up to Glasgow it is just going to go off, that lot are mental?"
As we finished up our conversation, I just had to ask Kiaran who the bands have their eye on to be the next big thing out of Scotland.
"There's that band called The Snuts? They seem to be really smashing it just now. We bumped into them down at Parr Street [Liverpool] Studios just when we were finishing up recording our album and they were class guys. I wish them all the best!"
