I recently had the chance to catch up with the fantastic Van T's recently for a chat! How would you sum up your 2018?
Pretty exciting! We got the chance to work with Rebalance which gave us a lot of opportunities to work on recording new material! It was great to have some time in London and Leeds working on new songs and recording. We also got to go to some amazing festivals like Live at Leeds, Community Festival, Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival and released Suis-Je Cool!
Plans for 2019?
So far we've released our new single 'Control' with Big Indie which we're all super excited about! We'll be playing a show at Two Tribes Brewery in London for them just before we head off to The Great Escape! We're also playing at Electric Fields, Truck Festival, Tramlines and we'll be supporting The Foo Fighters at Bellahouston Park!
What are your influences for song writing?
We all pull inspiration from different things I suppose. Personal experiences, other artists and poets, we inspire each other as well. We don’t really limit ourselves to particular influences.
Thoughts on the Scottish Music Scene?
It's absolutely thriving at the moment. Especially in Glasgow. There are so many amazingly talented musicians about at the moment and everyone is so supportive of each other. You’ll always see folk from different bands going to see other local bands which is amazing to see. There’s been more and more BBC Radio 1 play for up and coming Scottish bands as well. This week alone The Vegan Leather, The Dunts and The Ninth Wave all got their songs played on Radio 1. So yeah, I’d definitely say the Scottish music scene is absolutely thriving.
Favourite Scottish bands or artists?
The Jesus and Mary Chain, Orange Juice, The Lapelles, The Twilight Sad, HoneyBlood, The Vegan Leather, Declan Welsh and the Decadent West, Babystrange, The Dunts, Walt Disco, CRYSTAL, Lucia, The Ninth Wave, Pleasure Heads, The Lizzie Reid Band, Freakwave, Lazy Angel, Hairband, St. Martiins, Zoe Graham, Joesef, Fiendz, Fauves, Rascalton… There are honestly too many to name, we’ve probably missed some out but here are some of our favourites!
If you could each cover a song, what would it be and why?
Rude box by Robbie Williams. 4 times.
What's the most bizarre thing to happen while you were onstage?
Maybe not bizarre, but we've definitely had our fair share of onstage mishaps. We've had stage invasions, nip slips, Chloe crowd surfing mid-set and one time Shaun wore a wedding dress on stage.
If you only had one album to listen to, what would it be?
Now! That’s what I call Christmas.
What is each of you guilty pleasure song?
Anything by Robbie Williams and we’re not even guilty about it.
If you had your own festival, who would be your 3 headliners?
R.E.M, Led Zeppelin and Cher.
