The Nickajack Men

I recently caught up with Lewis from The Nickajack Men for a chat!

How would you sum up your 2018? 2018 was really solid year for us, we managed to record our song "Changed Ways" over in Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin and get it out on Electric Honey Records and play a handful of festivals so we think its the year this show truly got on the road. Plans for 2019? We have been working real hard so far this year on writing a lot of new music, were gonna release our biggest body of work at some point this year all going to plan. Also playing some more festivals and there will be a couple of headline shows here and there. Any new music in the pipeline? Yes absolutely loads haha! I wont say to much on this front yet but some serious rock n roll will be with you in due course.

What gigs do you have coming up? Were real excited for our first show of the year this Friday (29th) supporting the chiefs Neon Waltz at Saint Lukes in Glasgow. Also really looking forward to heading back down to London on 17th of next month for a headline show in Zigfrid von Underbelly in Shoreditch. We also play Ignite Showcase Saint Lukes GLA (Tues 16th April) Shuffle Down Festival (Fri 26th April) - Liverpool Sound City (Sat 4th May) - Stag & Dagger Festival GLA (Sun 5th May) - Vibration Festival (Sat 25th May) and more tba throughout the year. What are your influences for song writing? A lot of the time I guess my songwriting is usually about some kind of situation I've found myself in, usually bad haha. I like to take inspiration from small things as well, sometimes they can be the things that we only actually think about for the few seconds when were doing them but a lyric can really resonate with someone. There is always something interesting to go write about really. Thoughts on the Scottish Music Scene? There are a few bands I really love, but I can't say I'm huge into loads of Scottish bands. I think a lot of bands are trying to be someone they ain't rather than crafting and finding their own sound. Favourite Scottish bands or artists? There are a few bands I think are making some unreal stuff at the moment the likes of, Neon Waltz, Miracle Glass Company, Pleasure Heads and Gallus im a big fan of all them! If you could cover a song, what would it be and why? Jesus that's a hard one, i'd probably change my mind every time you ask haha i'll go for Alabama Shakes - Dune today. What's the most bizarre thing to happen while you were onstage? I was violently sick at the end of our show in Falkirk a couple of years ago - that's probably still up there. Twice now we have played on a flat bed truck thing also. If you only had one album to listen to, what would it be? That's another hard one haha, I've been listening to a lot of Wilco recently so i'm saying "Wilco (The Album)" is my answer! What is your guilty pleasure song? Bowling For Soup - 1985

If you had your own festival, who would be your 3 headliners? What a scenario this would be haha i'd have The War On Drugs, Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit and Twin Peaks!
