I recently caught up with one of Dundee's newest bands for an interview!
How would you sum up your 2018?
2018 for us was really all about setting the foundation for the band and what we wanted to achieve in the future. We formed in October of 2018 and those first couple of months were spent rehearsing over and over again, getting our songs tight and gelling together. We played our first gig on Boxing Day, supporting Ruvellas, which was probably the best first gig we could’ve had in terms of exposure.
Plans for 2019?
All the lads in the band are very excited for the coming year. We released our debut single ‘Hurricane’ back in January which received a much better response than we had anticipated. The main objectives for us this year are to; gig as much as possible, get more of our tunes out there and to just enjoy ourselves in doing so. We just want to play music.
Any new music in the pipeline?
We’ve always got new songs and song ideas bouncing around almost every rehearsal. As of right now we’ve just finished recording our next single ‘Pretty Faces’ and are in the process of getting it ready for release. We can’t wait to share it with everyone. People can expect many more songs from us by the end of the year for sure.
What are your influences for song writing?
Michael is our songwriter and he takes his inspiration and influence from the likes of: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Noel Gallagher, Lee Mavers, Paul Weller and Ray Davies. All the best of British song writing for us.
Thoughts on the Scottish Music Scene?
We think the Scottish music scene is definitely underrated. There are so many talented musicians/bands in Scotland who don’t get the showcase they deserve. The Scottish music scene is proof that people still care about bands and authentic music from authentic musicians.
Favourite Scottish bands or artists?
Our favourite Scottish bands are Travis, The View and The Fratellis. All three produced some iconic tunes that every other person will most likely know.
If you could cover a song, what would it be and why?
It would have to be Brianstorm by Arctic Monkeys. It’s not like we’d be able to pull it off or that but it would be great to give it a go anyway. The song is brilliant, full of energy and always gets an audience going which would be cool to experience up on stage.
What’s the most bizarre thing to happen while you were onstage?
The most bizarre thing would have to be at this year’s battle of the bands when a random guy came to the front and started busting out all kind of dance moves, front flips, back flips… you name it. He was probably more entertaining than us to be fair to him.
If you only had one album to listen to, what would it be?
It’s such a hard decision for us to make but if we only had 1 album each to listen to, it would have to be; ‘Led Zeppelin I’ by Led Zeppelin for Kenneth, ‘…And Justice for All’ by Metallica for Andrew and ‘The La’s’ by The La’s for Michael.
What is your guilty pleasure song?
Our guilty pleasure songs are; ‘Troublemaker’ by Olly Murs, ‘Irreplaceable’ by Beyoncé and ‘Beat Again’ by JLS. No member of the band shall be named and shamed at this time.
If you had your own festival, who would be your 3 headliners?
Our headliners would probably be The Last Shadow Puppets, Foo Fighters and Kasabian. All of those bands know how to put on a show and we could only imagine how good that weekend would be.
