OHRIO

I caught up with Declan from Ohrio for a chat!

How would you sum up your 2018?

2018 was a massive year for us! We won the WestFest battle of the bands, released our debut EP ‘Drowning’ and played some amazing shows.

Plans for 2019? In 2019 we just want to get bigger and better and continue the momentum that we built last year!

Any new music in the pipeline? Yes! Lots of new music coming very soon so watch this space!

What are your influences for song writing? Is it too cliche to say that my personal life is the biggest influence in song writing? Probably...but who cares if your not feeling what you write then it doesn’t resonate!

Thoughts on the Scottish Music Scene? The music scene in Scotland is full of amazing artists that are just so good and so different! It’s daunting at times because you need to stand out but it’s great sharing the stage with so many talented people. Favourite Scottish bands or artists? There are so many! But there is one Scottish band happens to be my favourite band of all time and that is The Twilight Sad. I’m so inspired by what they do and they are a huge influence on my music and how I write songs. To be honest I’m just a total fan boy I’ve even got tattoos of their album covers...embarrassing!

If you could cover a song, what would it be and why? Why is that such a difficult question to answer! Easy answer would be any song by The Twilight Sad...but I would rather do something completely different to our sound so we could make it our own. Also something easy cause I’m hopeless!

What's the most bizarre thing to happen while you were onstage? Definitely not me making mistakes cause that happens every gig so not bizarre in the slightest! Nothing really strange has happened to us to be honest...oh actually a middle aged woman gave me the finger once when we were on stage does that count? I was there, Battle Of The Bands at Church Dundee last year, funny as...

If you only had one album to listen to, what would it be? Curveball but it would have to be ‘Solid Air’ by John Martyn it’s just perfect!

What is your guilty pleasure song? Not even ashamed to say it ‘Fairground’ by Simply Red...it’s my jam!

If you had your own festival, who would be your 3 headliners? Twilight Sad, The Cure and Radiohead...how original eh?
