I recently caught up with Eugene from Ded Rabbit for a wee chat!
How would you sum up your 2018?
We had an incredible 2018 with our largest tour to date. We played shows across Scotland, England, Ireland and Portugal and met loads of interesting characters along the way
Plans for 2019?
Our plans for 2019 involve a lot of song writing and recording. We are working on our debut album at RAK studio in London, experiencing new ways of working and approaches to recording.
Any new music in the pipeline?
We have a lot of new music in the process, with an album to follow.
What are your influences for song writing?
In terms of grooves for tunes we kinda just jam ideas that each of us bring to practice. Sometimes a near finished idea or one in its early stages. I suppose what were listening to at the time may show in our tunes, and if we like a particular feel or sound of a tune we may try to incorporate that into out music. Lyrically I use different techniques for example taking inspiration from personal experiences or spinning fictional story's of people or places that might not exist.
Thoughts on the Scottish Music Scene?
Scotland's music scene has alot going on in my eyes. Always gigs happening around the central belt and when we go up north people always seem keen to support local venues and touring bands. It's a shame how venues have been closing and have been struggling so it's always good to see people going out to gigs to support local music and independent venues. Independent venue week is a great thing when it comes round and I feel makes people more aware that the scene, venues and bands need support. There's some great networking events such as xpo north and wide days, these have been very beneficial to us in the past and are a great way to meet other musicians and industry professionals.
Favourite Scottish bands or artists?
I have to say my favourite artist to come from Scotland is probably Orange Juice, great band. There is a lot of top music on the scene recently, my favourite band is probablly Bad Mannequins who are well worth checking out if youv not already.
If you could cover a song, what would it be and why?
I would like to do our own version of Jamie xx 'all under one roof raving'. It has a great feel and would be interesting to try and cover in an indie rock band.
What's the most bizarre thing to happen while you were onstage?
I once threw a tambourine high into the air and didn't realise a lady sat on the side of the stage. It hit hear square on the head, mid song I went to apologise and she slapped me. Complete accident. Quite bizzare.
If you only had one album to listen to, what would it be?
One album for me would probably be Tokyo Police Club 'champ' , I can listen to this on repeat. My Brothers might disagree.
What is your guilty pleasure song?
My guilty pleasure song is ABBA Fernando, no escaping the fact its a proper tune.
If you had your own festival, who would be your 3 headliners?
If I had a festival I'd have 'DR Dog', 'White Denim' and 'Tenacious D' as headliners.
