Originating from Falkirk post-punk foursome Pleasure heads have finally released their long awaited first EP. Influenced heavily by the early 60's punk and soul scene, the band have poured their vintage inspired sounds into the five tracks that feature on the EP. Gaining a steady fan base since exploding onto the chaotic scene after perfecting their desired sound, the boys have played a crazy amount of gigs this year including Rascalton's EP launch and the Saint Lukes All Dayer as well as becoming Club Sabbath regulars.
I think I speak for all of us when I say I couldn't be more excited about being able to stream these anthems that I've previously heard live. 'Slurrin'' is the first of the tracks, a punchy guitar tune including an electric bass with same rough vocals as previous releases. Next, an anthem about homelessness in our doomed society 'Down and Out' was dropped in September, this track basically preaches that you need to appreciate what you've got and does so with a jangly guitar tune and hypnotic drums in the background. Another track that's been previously released 'Same old Song' rapidly tells the story of our youth fading away into the past, again lead singer Euan Purves's raucous voice gives the tune an individual sound which sets them apart from rest of the bands in their genre.
'Eight or Wait' is a bold melody with a catchy vigorous sound destined to create a chaotic scene when played live which the band are more than familiar with. The last track on the EP and a personal favourite, 'Swedgehammer' is nothing short of an iconic ballad. Smooth guitar strums take us into this emotional track where we are met with anguish-filled vocals that you genuinely want to belt out at the top of your lungs. I reckon who you think about when you listen to this anthem speaks volumes.
These boys are clearly going places judging by this EP and it gives me a massive sense of pride to see another band of the Glasgow scene thriving! I'm looking forward to their upcoming EP launch at The Priory Bar next month, which you can still grab tickets to right now! https://pleasureheads.bigcartel.com/product/pleasure-heads-ep-launch
