E.P Review | Chris Greig and The Merchants - Lipstick

Updated: Jun 10, 2019

The latest E.P. from Glaswegian Indie band, Chris Greig and The Merchants was only released on Friday and I've had it on repeat since. The E.P. features a collection of catchy electric indie pop tunes which instantly gives you that feel good vibe!

Lipstick

At first listen, Chris’ striking voice blended perfectly with a joyful symphony of upbeat guitar riffs and rhymical drums, creates the first track of the E.P. Lipstick. The title track immediately draws the listener in with its happy vibe and catchy chorus: the ultimate summer song! Lipstick has a mixed influence from indie pop band, The 1975 alongside the band’s own personal style creating the perfect opening track!

StopGo

The second track bounces right in with a thrilling opening beat, perfect for putting a smile on your face. I just love how certain songs can automatically put you in a good mood and ‘StopGo’ is definitely one of them. I think this would be a great song to hear live as there’s no way you’d be able to stand still whilst listening to it, creating the perfect gig atmosphere!

Colours

Colours was actually the first song I'd heard from Chris Greig and The Merchants which instantly made me a fan. The upbeat guitar riffs and quirky drum beats, alongside the passionate vocals flows flawlessly creating the exciting energy that makes the band so unique within the Scottish music scene today! The song helps continue the 'feel good summer vibe' which will also work wonders during a live set.

Talking Aloud

The final track and my favourite one of them all, ‘Talking Aloud’ is a little different to the other three but still creates the same feel good vibe. There’s a lyric in the song which I was just completely drawn to when I first heard it. ‘‘I have been walking these streets all alone, I have been talking aloud, strangers may judge me – each to their own’. It’s the type of song I think a lot of people can relate to as our society can be so quick to judge regardless of them knowing exactly what a person is going through. It's lyrics like these that totally creates a personal touch for the listener which I think is crucial in order for the fans to connect with a band! It just shows that not only have the band got a talent for writing music but also for writing lyrics too!

With a headlining slot at this year’s King Tuts Summer Nights Festival and a set at the Incredible Kendal Calling festival, the Lipstick E.P. is just a glimpse of what’s in store for the Chris Greig and The Merchants this year!
